This Sunday, we continue to sit at the feet of Jesus listening to the Sermon on the Mount. In this teaching, Jesus demolishes human wisdom and even exceeds Old Testament law regarding defending our rights, resisting evil and retaliation. Instead, we are called to give way, ignore insults and disarm our enemies by unexpected generosity and love. We are called to be the children of our Father in heaven, who extends costly self sacrificing love to the whole world; including those who rejected Him to the point of crucifixion. Would that we could live and speak in ways that point past our flaws of pride and selfishness to the perfect love of the Father.
